As promised here is our latest blog about our wonderful Saxophonist Ryan.
Ryan and our singer Shannon first met at the young age of 16 in their school band, SoulPatrol. They performed with SoulPatrol until they left school and had some fantastic experiences, namely touring Spain, Denmark and China. As well as playing at a few little venues around the UK like The NEC and The Royal Symphony Hall in Birmingham, this always included running to the Bullring for Krispy Kremes between sound check and performing.
Since then Ryan has been SMASHING IT and is one of the most in demand musicians in the UK and we love having him in the 4TTF family. Here is what he has to say:
I remember being a kid and seeing a Sax in the local music shop and from that point on I knew it was what I wanted to do. I was classically trained originally, but soon found that Jazz was what I really wanted to play, which led me to graduating with a BA(Hons) in Jazz Saxophone from Leeds College of music in 2013.
Since graduating I have taken part in many different projects including Tom Grennan's UK Album Launch, playing with the 'Magic of Motown' show at theatres around the UK, working on a new Album with the 'King Brasstards' full of originals, covers and music Videos, The Four Masons Jazz Quintet, Miles Hancocks 'Jazz Colossus Big Band' and also orchestra 'Symphonica' ft 3 time world turntable champion Mr Switch.
When it comes to a favourite artist I don't know where to begin!? I'd struggle to name just one person as I have taken massive influences from many different musicians over my life. To name a few ..Bob Reynolds, Seamus Blake, Ben Wendel, Chris Potter, Joshua Redman, Joe Lovano.. The list goes on. Oh and I can't forget Eminem.
My favourite gigs I’ve played have to be the small jazz gigs in front of an audience of 20 people. They make me feel like I’m in a timeless bubble without a care in the world!
Playing with 4 To The Floor has be a really great experience for me. From transcribing out horn parts to arranging completely new ones for songs that don't have them. Songs that I like to play in 4TTF? I find myself enjoying playing the songs that either myself or Steve, our Trumpet player, have arranged horn parts for, as I feel like we're adding something new and exciting to the mix!
